How exciting. Just put the ‘phone down after an interesting conversation with a lady from the Leisure Team, Frosts at Millets Farm Garden Centre, Frilford. Our local farm shop and garden centre. They are holding a “Living Off The Land” weekend Saturday 26th – Sunday 27th May and want the company to be there as a local wool and yarn business. It sounds like it will be a very lively and fun-filled event for all the family. I’ll be chatting to some of the ladies from the local Guild of Weaver, Spinners and Dyers as there is talk of <whisper> a virgin alpaca fleece </end whisper> being made available for spinning too. More information here (you also need to click on Millets Farm as the choice of local centre). I’ll add more information as it becomes available. Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th May from 10am until 4pm.

Yes, it is summer but there are those who like to plan ahead… Hopefully we can showcase some of our new wool, yarns and kits together with old favourites. Over on our Facebook page we’ve asked for any suggestions of products YOU would really like to see. Please drop us a note with any special requests.

We were stuck for a little while on what to call Truffle (for a few days it was referred to as “Dad Sock Brown”), thanks to @MarmiteMiss and @fpeppiatt for helping to settle that one! Morrel was also the subject of a minor debate! So, here are the new shades: BLACK CHARCOAL CHOCOLATE MORREL OLIVETTO TRUFFLE

Three fabulous new shades of our Camelot superfine kid mohair blend arrived unexpectedly, early last week. It’s always good to have another pair of eyes when trying to think of accurate names for shades so I took these along to the Cast On! Knitting Group at our local last Wednesday evening.
“Multiple Sclerosis: the big knit” is a creative knitting, art, science project that follows on from the success of Knit a Neuron. The project is organised by the British Society for Immunology and Helen Featherstone from Knit a Neuron, in collaboration with the Cheltenham Science Festival. MS is a neurological disease where the body’s own immune system attacks the nerves of the brain. The project aims to recreate this by sewing knitted brain cells and white blood cells together into a giant display. The final piece of artwork will be donated to the MS Society who will use it in their future work to raise awareness of this disease.
Can you help? Our chum Françoise has created this fun Tea Cosy with matching Egg Cozies. We’ve called them “Retro” but wonder if there is a better name? Knitted using our Tebe 100% Extra Fine Merino “double” the simple pattern is broken up with splashes of bright contrasting colour; I love the rich chocolate and fresh apricot combination. She thought that some Rudbeckia-type flowers would really add a touch of, well, “retroness” So, can you think of a better name? The prize? How about a kit to make this Tea Cosy with co-ordinating Egg Cozies? Contact us with your suggestions for a pattern name by the end of Friday 8 April. Winner will be chosen Saturday 9 April. Of course, it may well be that “Retro” is the name that will stick!

This really appealed to my sense of fun (and my husband’s) and I replied “YES!” straight away.
Thanks Knitting magazine team for the review of our Top 50 mohair blend (50% superfine kid mohair 50% polyamid {nylon}). Although I had seen this featured in the magazine, I hadn’t realised it was also on the Knitting Institute website. I’ve included our own image here of this colourway in the skein – a sort of before shot as it were. We had great fun choosing the names for this yarn – at one of our Cast On! knitting group meetings at the local pub. My personal favourites are “Wuthering Heights” and “Raspberry Smoothee”. We won’t talk about the world’s easiest lace rectangular wrap that is still languishing in my project bag… Read all about it here!
